Some patients may benefit from specifically tracking their time of ovulation. This allows us to see if ovulation is occurring as expected, with the development of a good size follicle, and confirmation that the follicle has ruptured completely at the time of ovulation. This may guide the use of medication and provides information to maximise the chances of conception from timed intercourse.
Follicle tracking is carried out using an internal scan. This is not a painful procedure and can be carried out in the NaProDoctor facility. The ultrasound will be able to see developing follicles (the sacs that hold the eggs – the eggs themselves cannot be seen) in the ovary. Usually one follicle becomes dominant and matures until it finally ruptures and releases the egg into the fallopian tube. Timed intercourse can allow the sperm to reach the egg just as it is being released.
